My Review:
Daniel Bryan won the Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match
Match Rating: ****
Predictions: 1 for 1
This was just about everything we thought it would be. Spots, drama, intensity... It was a great way to kick off Wrestlemania. While I'm not the biggest Bryan supporter there is, I think he will do wonders for that title and hopefully a long reign is ahead of him! Great match.
Randy Orton def. Seth Rollins
Match Rating: ****
Predictions: 2 for 2
RKO OUTTA NOWHERE!!! Wow that move was crazy and this match was great. I had very high expectations heading into this match and they at least matched those expectations. Given more time we may have been looking at match of the night (actually I don' know because that main event was freaking badass) but this was a fun midcard match and has been a great feud. Will Orton get a shot at the title now?
Triple H def. Sting
Match Rating: ****
Predictions: 2 for 3
Let's just start this off by saying Wrestlemania 31 started with three, THREE, four star matches! That is insane. As for this match, I don't think anyone saw Trips coming out with a win here. But it does open up the possibility for one more match (vs. Undertaker) for Sting. This match wasn't a classic because of the great in-ring action rather than the moments that happened in it. DX vs. NWO had me marking out to the max for sure! Just hope Sting could have got the win here but like I said, this means a match with Taker next year is very possible. And HHH can't lose all the time.
AJ and Paige def. The Bella Twins
Match Rating: **
Predictions: 3 for 4
This was good for what it was and given more time could have been one of the better diva's matches in Wrestlemania history. But like I said this was good for what it was and let the crowd breathe a little after those first 3 classics! Glad Paige got her first Mania win here.
John Cena def. Rusev to win the United States Championship
Match Rating: ***1/2
Predictions: 4 for 5
These two really put on a solid match and once again a midcard title gets a HUGE boost in the form of a main eventer holding the belt. Just imagine two heavyweights like Cena and Sheamus fighting for that title or Cena and Ziggler revamping their feud from a while back now for the title. A lot of good directions to go with both midcard title belts and just imagine if Brock would have retained, those belts would be headlining shows across the country. But anyways this was a really great match and I appreciate the superb effort from both men involved. Losing to Cena at Wrestlemania does nothing to hurt Rusev at all. He is one of the next big heels in wrestling.
Undertaker def. Bray Wyatt
Match Rating: ***1/2
Predictions: 4 for 6
Really wish they would have given Bray the rub here but it makes sense to get Undertaker back to his winning ways. He looks to be in great shape and probably has a match or two left in him. This was a typical Taker match rather than a typical WRESTLEMANIA Taker match but it was still fun with all the moments and theatrics thrown in. Wasn't it weird seeing both of these guys coming out in broad daylight? Didn't like that at all but I did enjoy this match and the crowd was into it to. Good match.
Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar ends in No Contest; Seth Rollins def. Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar after cashing in his MITB Briefcase to become the New WWE World Heavyweight Champion
Match Rating: ****1/4 (Match of the Night)
Predictions: 4 for 7
Really would have rather had one of my favorite guys in Lesnar or Reigns get their Wrestlemania moment with a clean finish but I can't complaing, the future is here. Rollins is the next Edge, and Edge made for some very entertaining TV in his time as a main event heel (event though as a kid I HATED him, and if I was a kid now I'd probably HATE Rollins) the future is here. But holy shit how good was this match? Everyone wrote this match off from the beginning while I said all along it was going to be one of the most explosive hard hitting matches of all time. In my eyes this is a top 10 Mania match and what a way to end an AWESOME Wrestlemania!!!
Overall: 9.5/10
It's funny honestly, just a week ago all the smarks and IWC were writing this event off before it even happened and now it's receiving praise from everyone around the country. Meanwhile, I was the one saying that this match card had potential and every match on this card lived up to or exceeded expectations. That just teaches all the doubters and haters out there to shut their mouths and watch the show. WWE is a multi-billion dollar industry for a reason and they know what they are doing. Now enough of that rant, HOW AWESOME WAS THIS WRESTLEMANIA? Top 5 Wrestlemania of all time for sure! Everything from the opening bell to the nights main event is worth the watch with the exception of maybe one or two things. I was entertaining from beginning to end and the main event was just wow, definitely a match of the year candidate right there with one of the biggest swerves in Wrestlemania history. Was really pulling for my dude Roman Reigns (who shut a lot of his critics up last night, just like I said as well) but Rollins deserves his run and Reigns' time will come. We saw some of the most underrated and determined performers try to steal the show all with the prestigious IC title on the line, we saw Orton perform one of the sickest moves in history with that devastating Curb Stomp turned RKO, we saw Sting in his first ever Wrestlemania and WWE match, we saw NWO vs. DX (!!!), we saw THE face of the WWE win a title that has been in a huge need of a boost since he last held it in 2004, we saw the Wrestlemania phenom return to his old self in a great match with Bray Wyatt, and we saw an epic main event that left us with more questions than answers. Where do we go from here? Rollins vs. Orton? Rollins vs. Reigns? Rollins vs. Reigns vs. Orton??? When will we see Brock Lesnar again and against who? Will Sting still be on WWE TV? Who do Cena and Bryan go on to feud with? Very exciting stuff happening in WWE.
